Hi there,
First thanks to Sven and Simon for their effort in making 3d scanning affordable for everyone.
After trying the usual things (shoes & statues), this is my first attempt in scanning (my) head.
I'm using a green focusable laser from the David shop, stuck on a kitchen timer.
It's not ideal since it take at least 2mn for a scan (and I can't take my breath for more than 1mn)
Camera is a DSLR Pentax K7. Lot of noise since it's impossible to set ISO (automatic). Post processing videos with after effect I can get a real thin line on perfect black background. but it take time... and was not the case for this scan.
Some scan at 640x480 and other at 1280x720.
For now my rig is not good enought fot Hi-Res and better besults come with low Res.
There are a lot of scan merged for this one (a least 8 ). About one hour to make the scans / fusion / smothing waves in Zbrush.
With 15mn more I get a nice mesh using 3D-Coat (nice app, try it!)
Notice that I still have some issue with my clenaed mesh, and I need to better define loops to make it animable.
After that my next improvment will be to extract fine detail from Hi-Res picture to push subtle displacement on the model (skin pores & details).
