Strange results--who can tell me

Postby interactneo » Sun Nov 18, 2012 4:57 pm

Today I used a plaster test the SL scan parallel with the horizontal and vertical scanning, strange things occur, the use of vertical scan results were normal. However, when using the horizontal scanning ,results is bad,I can not believe this is DAVID scan results (scanning angle between vertical 21 degrees, 0.9 degrees horizontally).

I try to increase the level of the Horizontal angle to 9 degrees, results a lot, but still did not reach the level of the quality of the V-scan, I do not know what happen, who can explain? Thanks

Hi interactneo,

I'm not sure if I got your problem.
Usually DAVID chooses the best mode (vertical, horizontal, or both) after calibration and you don't need to change it.
The vertical mode has to be used when camera and projector are placed on an vertical axis (i.e. on top of each other), whereas the horizontal mode has to be used when camera and projector are placed on a horizontal axis (i.e. side by side, like in the SLS-1). If projector and camera are mounted on an diagonal axis, "both" is the best mode.
In other words: If you have a vertical angle of 21 degree and a horizontal angle of 0.9 degree you must use the "vertical" mode (or "both). The horizontal mode is wrong and would produce very noisy scans. So regrading your example images: everything works as expected. :)

Hello Simon,
This is new information to me. I was getting very good results with my previous set up. A vertical setup with projector on top . But as did a new scanning rig everything went wrong. The scans were with heavy waves. Two modifications were made
1) changes the position of camera, 2) upgraded to David 3.5. For about 2 weeks I was struggling but no good result.
After seeing your posting I reoriented the Camera Projector assembly and I started getting good results again.

Thanks and Regards

Benoy
