Usually you will choose one of the pre-defined profiles:
Classic DAVID Setup: Object and camera fixed, scan with a hand-held line laser.

Structured Light Setup: Object and camera fixed, scan with a fixed video projector. This also allows Scanning Without Background.
Alternatively you can define your own setup, e.g. turntable with fixed laser, linear slide moving camera and laser along the object etc. This function is still experimental and only partially implemented at this time.
